Why should we hire you for this position?

Why should we hire you for this position?

Why should we hire you for this position? This is one of the final questions in the interview. So how should this question be answered? And what is the most appropriate answer pattern?

Question purpose

Employers want to get more information from candidates is the first reason when asking this question. Almost every interview question has a very clear purpose. And the ultimate goal is to provide additional information so that employers can make more accurate decisions.

This question is often asked last for a reason. Before that, the recruiter had questions and received a lot of information from you. The two may have exchanged quite a bit of work information with each other. This question is reinforcing, summarizing what the two have discussed earlier in the interview.

There are many opinions that if answering this question is not “good”, you may be removed from the position you are applying for. However, in my personal opinion, a job interview cannot be judged by just one answer. Only if your answer falls into one of the job requirements that you don’t meet.

Questioner’s point of view

Indeed one of the top reasons for asking “Why should we hire you for this position?” is to see your ability to synthesize information and your determination with the position you are applying for.

Interviewing is stressful, and not everyone can memorize all the information. Through the last question, the candidate can relive the entire previous interview process. Find information that has been exchanged by employers. Assess for yourself whether it’s the job you’re after, and decide.

There are many interviews only to realize that the candidate completely does not understand, or does not fully understand the position being applied for. Then after the consultation, the candidate can still refuse the invitation to the company to work. So, through this question near the end, the employer also wants the candidates to show their determination to choose the job.

Recruitment is a choice of both sides. One side chooses a business to work for. One side is to select the right candidate for the position. And no one has the absolute right to decide.

How to answer

Know the information that the interviewer is communicating

Interviews are a great opportunity for both of you to get information. You as a candidate are responsible for answering and providing accurate information. However, in another aspect, you absolutely have the right to know what job you are applying for? What information you do not know yet.

If the employer is not clear about the position you are applying for, do not hesitate to ask for more details. You need to have a good overview of the position you are applying for, as well as the company you are interviewing for. The information about the company, and the position can be found on the Internet, but it is not always completely accurate.

Try to understand the company and the position for which you are interviewing.

Personal self-assessment

After knowing the information about the company and the job, you can completely determine how much you are suitable for. What your business needs but you don’t have yet? What do you need to learn more when working at the business? What are the points you completely meet the requirements?

Thereby, you can predict if you will be able to work or not. Certainly, there are few candidates who can meet all the requirements of the job, but at least your distance and the job requirements should not be too far. You only have a long time during the probationary period to learn and improve the points that are not suitable.

Show Determination

At this point, if you feel you have not met the job, do not hesitate to share it. However, if you really like the job, affirm to the employer your interests and hobbies. In addition, make a commitment that if accepted, you will try to learn to meet what the company requires.

If you meet most of the job requirements, don’t be overconfident. Businesses are sometimes more willing to hire people with good, humble attitudes than stars. Attitude over level. So please state your desire to work and contribute to the business.

And if after the interview, you feel that you are not suitable and do not want to do that position anymore. Do not hesitate to share with employers. You will help them save a lot of time for the processes and procedures of getting a job. They can find another candidate. And don’t forget to thank them for taking the time to share the information with you.
