The word corporate culture is a rather vague and abstract concept.
Sometimes in the process of working, you hear someone say “the corporate culture is..” or worse, “I don’t fit the working culture here”… But in fact, the cultural elements of a Business are not easy to shape or interpret so that we can understand them deeply. Individuals can say that the culture is not good, the culture is creative, … but the deep reason is difficult for anyone to explain.
What is corporate culture?
Ignoring the analytical elements of corporate culture, and with a practical perspective from the working environment itself, company culture is what internal enterprises take as a model for methods of interaction work. The company’s culture is basically the values that the business believes to be true or expresses itself as true.
When we encounter an incident, there will be many ways we react to find a solution or come up with the most appropriate solution. And it is certain that only one option will be implemented or deemed satisfactory and reasonable with the leadership’s opinion.
Everyone in the process of working, after many proposed options and through the leadership selection of the appropriate plan, gradually formed a habit, a working style.
It doesn’t make any sense if you give an explanation or a reaction to an object or phenomenon and it is not what the managers expect.
Such ideas will be considered unfeasible, impractical, and rejected. Each person will gradually form ideas or ways of interacting so that it is recognized as true. Right here is understood to be true from the perspective of the business, the company, but not necessarily the best solution or response.
Gradually, it takes shape and forms a habit, a method, a motif for other similar actions. Company culture was born from there.
Cannot be clearly defined
We cannot clearly define corporate culture because really only when we live with it, and experience it for a long enough time, can we form a suitable response.
The category of corporate culture is neither right nor wrong. That’s just what businesses are supposed to follow and take as a standard.
Therefore, corporate culture is greatly influenced by the top leadership, then gradually spreads to the lower levels and finally to the employees.
A mixed army that has just converged will hardly have a clear culture except for diversity. A business that has been around for a long time but has just changed its leadership with a new personality and orientation is also likely to shake the corporate culture.
The formation process takes a long time
The process of forming a company’s culture takes a long time and is a natural process.
It is the people at the top of the business that create that corporate identity, not what they want to be. You won’t be able to build a culture if you don’t lead by example and live with the culture itself.
Corporate culture, as well as core values, are two concepts that are not too independent but are sometimes difficult to distinguish.
Core values are the points that form a corporate culture. Those values that are recognized as appropriate turn all actions into a standard of behavior, and gradually form a unique culture in each enterprise.
