How to write a CV is a vital skill necessary for people to look for a new job. One of the most basic and rudimentary mistakes was that when I was about to graduate from college, I went online to find all the right CV writing tips and started working on my first CV. Then try to cram as many ideas as possible. 

However, not all articles on the Internet are written by recruiters or HR. Therefore, at that time, I did not know if I was writing a suitable CV or not.

After a period of working as an HR officer and learning from many predecessors, I gradually understood the most basic ideas of CV writing. Thereby understanding what would be appropriate to put on the CV. 

What has long been mistaken for me, but employers do not understand. 

Purpose of writing a CV

Really write a CV not to be good, to be beautiful, but to serve the business through which your suitability can be assessed. And the recruiter is the first audience that the CV is aimed at. Thereby, this article will summarize all the smallest items I have presented about CV writing.

First of all, you should understand how important your CV is in finding a new job. CV is a candidate’s first impression of the recruiter. They may not know who you are, have never seen your face shape, or know anything about your personality. But they will judge you somewhat just by the electronic file you send them. 

The first purpose of CV writing is to make the recruiters understand clearly your personal information. Your CV presents enough that they can quickly get the information they need for screening and interviewing. A talented person, no matter how good, but without CV writing skills, is very likely to be unfortunately missed.

CV layout and colors

Writing a good CV not only helps you but also the recruiters. No one wants to strain their eyes to find information, or have to speculate more about your job, what your old company was like, etc. The better your CV, the shorter the reading time of those. The shorter time the recruiter spends, the easier it is for them to decide if you’re suitable.

So first, don’t write anything, think and choose for yourself a CV layout that you think is reasonable, easy to understand, and easy to read information. Choose CV colors that are not too bright and do not challenge the reader’s eyesight. You look at your CV only for a few minutes and the recruiter can see the CVs of several dozen candidates a day. 

Besides, if your work needs to be aesthetically pleasing, make the most of it by adding links to your portfolio in addition to your CV.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

  • Social media: Consider including relevant information contained in social networks or otherwise remove it completely
  • Contact methods: Pay attention to the contact methods both you and the employer use. Make sure recruiters can contact you via the information provided
EDUCATION BACKGROUND

Basic includes information such as Education, Specialization, Foreign Languages, Informatics, Other certificates or short courses if any

The items you will need to pay attention to are as below:

  • How do distinguish between education and skills?
  • Make a note of the best skills you possess that are relevant to the job you are applying for
  • Include short courses relevant to the job you are applying for in your CV
EXPERIENCE

Include working time, previous business information you worked for, Brief description of work you have done

  • The company that works closest to you will write it first
  • If you do not have much experience, you can write your informal job on your CV
ACHIEVEMENT

Include measurable results, awards, and certifications from previous companies
